San Jose International Vocal Festival

Festival Objective
The San Jose International Vocal Festival (SJIVF) is a collaborative effort between the Arts Council San Jose and U.S. Beacon
Artist Association. The festival is usually held in August. The mission of the Festival is to foster and encourage young singers, to
unite talents from here and abroad in hopes of broadening the scope of education in vocal to the world. The Festival will provide
competitions, public concerts, performance showcases, master classes and workshops.

1, Age Classification:
Competition is open for all competitors over 18. Singers will compete in one of three Divisions:
Lower Division: (18-24)      Upper Division: (25-30)      Advanced Division: (31 and older).
2, Competition format and requirements:
A, The Competition will consist of two separate rounds: primary and finals. Competitors will perform two Arias (Opera and/or
 Oratorio) for primary round. The total combined performance time for two selections must not exceed 10 minutes    
B, Repertoires: All Division singers will be prepared to perform two Arias (Opera and/or  Oratorio), or one Aria (Opera or   
Oratorio) and one Art Song of contrasting style, period, language and composer, from the standard Western European    
and/or American literature. Russian and Spanish language literature is also acceptable..
C, During final round, competitors can use the repertories for primary round, and the total combined performance time for two
 selections must not exceed 15 minutes.    
D, Singers will be responsible for securing their own accompanists for all rounds of the competition.
E, All stages of the competition may be recorded and/or video recorded as authorized by the competition organizing    
committee, which retains the exclusive rights of all audio and video recordings

San Jose International Chorus Competition

1, Age Classification (the Chore will enter in one of the following category):
1.Mixed Chorus         2.Male Chorus or Female Chorus           3.Children’s Chorus
2,  Competition format and requirements:
A, The Competition will consist of two separate rounds: primary and finals (must not exceed 15 minutes for both round).
B, Repertoires:
  Primary Round:  One repertoire from Baroque Period or Classic Period. One repertoire composed after 19 centre.
  Final Round:  Self-choose two repertoires in different Periods, can accompanied with piano or other instrument. Repertories  
  can be used for both Primary Round and Final.  

International Performance Showcase
Open to all ages in all classification; take the opportunity to show your works to Professional artists in a relaxed environment;    
all participants will be acknowledged!

Advanced Training Program:
Festival includes Daily Master Classes, Lectures, Private Lessons.   
Competition awards include First, Second, Third, Fourth Honor Roll of each age classification. Performance Showcase applicants
will receive “Talent Awards”.

teaching institutions inspires everyone to gain the highest standard of education; Universal Studio and Hollywood Bowl: the ultimate
musical amphitheater; Disneyland and the Walt Disney Concert Hall: home of the magic and the most acoustically sophisticated
concert hall in the world.

                                                                 Applications and Registration:

A. Early application and Early Registration are encouraged.  To guarantee your acceptance, you should complete your registration
by submitting a completed application form with the payment of the registration fee (non-fundable): $100 for competition, $35 for
performance showcase. Please mail the check along with application to:

B. Competition/performance time will be email/mailed to you/your school/ instructors                           

Related Information:
A.  Applicants need to submit evidence of identification.
B.  All works must be performed from memory.
C.  Recording or video tapping during the competition is forbidden.
D.  Applicants need to arrange their own accompanist.
E.  Competitors are required to wear proper dress during competition.
